Sensory Integration Assessment
SENSORY INTEGRATION is assessed at Alpine Behavior Therapy Clinic through the use of a thorough developmental evaluation (interview of collateral informants and the individual in concern) in combination with use of a standardized rating scale, The Sensory Profile. This profile is designed to carefully assess an individual’s propensity toward observable behavioral reactions relevant to changes within his/her sensory realm. The assessment is applicable to children as well as adults.
Sensory Integration issues arise for individuals who experience acute or heightened sensitivity toward environmental stimuli, especially when making transitions form one sensory experience to the other. As a result, emotional reactions can occur ranging from simple noticing to intense overt reactions, including anger, tearfulness, withdrawal, and complete avoidance of the sensory experiences altogether. These symptoms are frequently observed in tandem with other disorders, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and other developmental disorders.

- Sensitivity toward smell, taste, sound, texture, temperature, visual sensations and inappropriate physical boundaries (personal space and proximity).
- Problems in concentration, distractibility, poor attention, slowness in processing speed, problems in motivation, impulsivity, disorganization, forgetfulness, are also often observed.
