FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please note: Our therapists are considered to be experts in their respective areas of clinical specialty. We do not provide free "meet and greet" sessions. As a new patient, when you schedule your first appointment, this will be your initial intake session for yourself and/or your child. This session is considered your first billable, fee-for-service session.
1. What kind of therapy do you provide? How do I know this is sound, professional work?
Each of our therapists primarily utilize a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach in our clinical work. This means we assist our clients in changing their behavior by way of helping them become aware of and changing their negative thinking patterns. Recent research suggests CBT is the fastest and most long-term, effective approach to assist individuals who struggle with attention related problems, relationship issues, anxiety and stress, depression, unwanted habits, etc.. We also utilize an Eriksonian Hypnotherapy approach in conjunction with CBT Psychotherapy in cases where Hypnosis is relevant. In the case of relationships and families, we typically rely upon a well established Family Systems Approach in our ongoing psychotherapy.
All of our therapists are well experienced clinicians, across a broad range of diagnostic profiles and life situations. In addition, we are a teaching clinic, which means we rely upon current, evidence-based research in our work. We integrate these didactic principles into our therapeutic services.
NOTE: We also provide internet based secure Tele-therapy via ZOOM to individuals who live outside our geographic locale. Please contact us to arrange for an appointment day and time. Standard policies and fee schedules apply.
2. Do you accept our insurance? (What will I have to budget into my health routine?)
Our patients pay us directly for the clinical services we render. We, in turn, provide you with a printed "super-bill," which you may elect to submit to your insurance company to pursue direct reimbursement, at your own discretion. This printed service statement features our direct clinical service codes, your diagnostic information and other relevant provider information your insurance company may need to consider reimbursement back to you. We do not participate with any third party administrators or repricing agencies, or single case agreements, nor do we bill insurance companies directly.
NOTE: It is the patient's responsibility to determine the status of any insurance deductible(s) prior to scheduling therapy.
Dr. Kurth is a contracted provider for Injury Finance (TRIO Group), Well States HealthCare, Marrick Medical, Mountain View Pain Center, Advanced Injury Treatment Center, and PROVE Partners. These are all useful lien-based resources for many individuals who are pursuing litigation for their personal injury cases, such as those involving accident-related acquired brain injury/TBI. In addition, Dr. Kurth is an in-network provider for Military OneSource (MOS) under the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).
3. How do I know my insurance company will cover this? (Will I get reimbursed?)
Although we cannot ethically guarantee our services will be covered by your specific policy, we can assure you many companies that provide coverage for outpatient mental health services tend to provide some level of reimbursement. Coverage is based on your company’s schedule of coverage for outpatient service rendered by a licensed professional. Reimbursement may be subject to your specific plan's annual individual and/or family deductible and/or out-of-pocket expense plan. Our services may also be tax deductible under medical services. Check with your CPA on this deduction advantage.
4. How long will therapy take? (What is my long-term commitment here?)
Your initial session is scheduled for a healthy hour. Sessions thereafter are 45 minutes each. We typically schedule patients to be seen on a once weekly basis. In general, our clients experience results within a few weeks, but find benefit in continuing their counseling over several months. Because we rely on a more solution based, didactic, skill-building approach, our clients begin to experience some positive change in their situations almost immediately. Many of our established patients elect to continue on in longer-term counseling as they see beneficial to improving the quality of their lives.
5. How often should I attend therapy ? (What kind of therapy schedule frequency should I expect?)
We recommend meeting with our patients on a once-per-week basis to secure a consistent momentum in your situational improvement. As measurable, steady progress is made in your situation, your therapy schedule may be adjusted to an as-needed basis. You and your therapist will agree on this plan together.
6. What is ABTC's fee schedule for therapy?
ABTC's fee schedule for clinical services is reasonable, affordable and regionally competitive. Fees for additional services vary, depending on the specific service (e.g. Expert Witness services, Educational 504 and IEP Plan liaison, etc.) provided. Dr. Kurth is a participating provider for Military One Source, a U.S. Department of Defense sponsored Employee Assistant Program (EAP), whereby benefits are provided to active military personnel and their families for limited sessions. She also participates as an in-network provider for several Lien Funded Companies serving individuals involved in personal injury cases.
For direct pay patients, forms of acceptable payment for our clinical services include Cash, Check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express credit cards. We also accept Debit cards and HSA cards (e.g. flex-pay, etc.).
7. Why does it seem like therapy requires such an "investment"?
Listen to your own question here. YOUR personal and sustained mental health well-being are worth this sound investment.
Our staff clinicians focus on providing excellent professional services aimed at improving your quality of life and assisting you in resolving your specific situation(s) in an expedient manner. Our professional fee schedule reflects the level of clinical expertise we provide to you, based on our collective years of experience, education, research and extensive training. As clinicians, we pride ourselves in delivering evidence-based services to our patients. These services are a fair exchange for your investment in you.
We emphasize the importance of considering meeting mental health needs in therapy instead of prioritizing reimbursable services as a primary goal. While we appreciate the value of insurance benefits used to offset clinical service costs, we take great pride is assuring that our clinical services are streamlined, effective and efficient. We hope you will consider this outcome over the goal of securing reimbursable services for you and your family members.
